Shedding New Light

I have the most wonderful hubby in the world! Not only did he install new lights outside our house on labor day (how fitting), but earlier this week he surprised me by planting a Crape Myrtle tree in the front yard. The tree will eventually bloom white flowers-I'm already in love. Here is our little crate in his infancy stages. Hopefully he will continue to grow strong!

New outside light from Lowes. Ben installed three, two framing the garage and one next to our front door. When our house was getting a new roof a few months back, one of the lamps had been damaged, so we decided to go with a whole new look.

Recent Finds

Do you ever catch yourself dreaming about something you saw at the store weeks before? Well, I couldn't stop fantasying about how good these cobalt blue glasses would look paired with my polish pottery plates. So I went back to the Humane Society Thrift Store and bought them. I'm sure they are not extremely valuable, but I love their charm and the way they feel when you pick them up. Whether its a glass of wine, or a cup of ice cold water, I'll always feel fancy drinking out of one of these glasses.

Below the glasses are a few milk glass bowls that I thought would be perfect filled with holiday candy. You can never go wrong with milk glass! It transforms with everything you put in it, and wherever you place it! The backdrop for the bowls is a table cloth that I found a the SCAD, Savannah College of Art and Design, yard sale which was a few weeks back. It fits a round table, not sure of the size, but I know I'll have numerous occasions to use it, inside or out. The checkered cloth always reminds me of summer picnics out on the lawn, but I bet there could be some clever ways to put it to use in other months, maybe even Christmas. We shall see.

Only $10 for the set of four. You can't find a deal like that at William Sonoma.

Island Living: Chapter One-The Living Room

I've finally got the house to a photo graphical state, so here are a bunch of images from our Island home. (I love saying that!) Please keep in mind that I am still in the process of decorating and figuring out the best places for things. And of course, I'm on a budget so many of the items found in the house are from weekly treasure hunts at garage sales, thrift stores and any where else I can find a good deal. Well, enjoy the photos and I can't wait to have you come over and see it in person!!!

Gunpowder, Here We Come!

I never imagined that Ben and I would be able to buy our first home within the first year of our marriage, but our dream is coming true! We recently made an offer on this cozy home and our offer was accepted! There is so much to share, but this post will have to be brief since I am in the midst of Urinetown rehearsals and I need to run out the door, but let me give you the stats:

My pantry.....hehehehe. Envision shelves full of mandarin oranges, green beans, Bisquick, and brownie mix. (ha) Oh and don't forget the Saltines for Ben.

Velveteen Morning

I had heard from a little bird that there was going to be an estate sale above a florist shop early Saturday morning. So I got up, bright and early, and made my way to the sale. With a budget of $20 I was looking for a bargain, and I definitely found one. The minute I walked into the room I spotted these gorgeous velvet leaves and roses. Each bag was only $3! The flowers are the perfect accent for any wedding gift, or to dress up a birthday card envelope. I just couldn't resist. While I was carrying the bags of flowers I fell upon the woven basket, which was perfect to hold my new finds. SO, I bought it all for a "pricey" $11. Then on my way back to the house with my new treasures I spotted a garage sale in Ardsley Park. There I found a side table with lots of potential for only $7. I arrived home with still $2 to spare! wink.

Home Sweet Home: Living Room Addition

A few weeks ago, while Ben was out of town at a disc golf tournament, I decided to switch around the living room. I had told myself a while back that I wasn't going to bother with decorating anymore because we are planning to move in August, but I just couldn't resist.

I have always had a love for all things vintage/antique. Possibly attributed to my time growing up in Europe and looking for treasures in the local Brocantes, or searching out trinkets on our different travels. Recently I have been re-inspired to go out garage saling, estate saling, and antique hunting. Surprise, surprise. I come home with something new each time! I recently rediscovered Habersham Antiques (HA) which helped us finish our living room set for the time being. The "coffee" table in the center of the room was an old ship hatch from the WWII Liberty Ships built here in Savannah. It was stuffed away in a corn at HA priced at only $150. I later looked online to see how much a table like that might go for on ebay and I found that some sell from $500 to over a $1000 bucks!!! What a steal. Then on the same trip I feel upon the blue vintage couch for only $125. We also found 1960's Shaw-Walker Chair in amazing condition, so we decided to add that to the bunch too.
Some other fun things you'll find in the living room is a collection of artwork by friends ofcourse, my lovey, Ben. The Confederate Zombie feels right at home. Please note the orange retro lamps. Mama Ward picked those up for Ben and I at good ol' Tj's during our last trip home. Also, a special thanks to my friendly neighbor for lending me her curtains. They really soften up the room. Someday, in our future home, everything won't be crammed into one room, but for now I think it looks comfy and eclectic. Just the way the Ward's like it.

Welcome to the randomness of me! I have been meaning to post for some time now, but recent adventures in life have put a slight (2 month...or maybe 3month) delay on my posts. My life has been changing at a rapid speed; new career path, marriage, beginning my Masters, and much more...and I want to share my
thoughts, memories, expectations, likes, dislikes,inspirations,struggles,joys,opinions and everything else in between with you in a wee attempt to stay in touch. Disregard spelling errors and improper grammer...no time to correct,but I know you will love me anyways, right?

Any who, I'm was currently in the midst of reading 30 sum pages about Philosophical Ideas in Education for my Orientation to Teaching course (for those of you who don't know, I am back in school to get my Masters of Arts in Education, Early Childhood Education at Armstrong Atlantic State University) and I my mind started floating off into the world of music. My good friend Erin just bought us tickets to see Neko Case who is coming to Savannah soon. Erin cracks me up because I have NEVER heard Neko's music before, but she figured I would really like it so she treated. SOOOOOooooooooo, I just youtubed Neko and Erin was right. I really like her music and I am psyched to go to the concert. Thought you might enjoy hearing her too, so her is the link to one of her songs. Maybe Sparrow. Can't wait to hear her live! Yippy.

Ok. Back to work. I want to get my homework done before Valentine's Day weekend. Ben and I are going to be having Ryan and Maryann Nichols (close friends from AL) stay with us for the weekend and I want to be the best hostest I can be, and that doesn't include HW.

WOW. What a relief to finally post something! I promise there are a lot more wonderful things to come. I plan to make a couple tributes to important events that have happened in the past year, and also post a couple inspiration "boards" dedicated to some of the fabu people in my life...aka Emily Moo Moo Frank.
